Describe the piece you want. Watch it drafted into a blueprint, checked against real structural physics, and turned into plans you can build on Saturday.
“A walnut nightstand, two drawers, about knee height.” That’s enough — a photo works too. No CAD to learn, no template maze. The studio speaks carpenter, not computer.

02
Draft
Watch it become a blueprint.
Parametric templates draft your piece part by part — legs, aprons, joinery, drawer boxes — every dimension chosen by code that knows furniture. Change your mind in plain words; the drawing keeps up.
Parametric
One engine. Any piece.
The founding rule
Why this isn’t “just AI.”
The AI never writes a number. It translates intent — “lower, wider, walnut” — and hands it to a deterministic drafting engine. Every millimetre is computed, never generated.
Numbers carry receipts. Tap any dimension, span, or price in the app and see the formula behind it — that’s the provenance system, not a promise.
Same design in, same numbers out. No dice rolls in a cut list: our reference designs are frozen to 0.05 mm and re-verified on every change.
It can say no. A bookshelf that would sag under a real load of books fails its check and tells you why — then offers the fix.
03
Prove
Physics gets a veto.
Every design runs a structural gauntlet: shelf sag from real wood stiffness, racking, tipping, fastener duty — at safety factor 4, with creep counted in years, on material data from the U.S. Forest Service’s Wood Handbook. When something won’t hold, we say so — and one tap fixes it honestly.
04
Build
From thin air to the workbench.
The blueprint becomes wood — then a cut list with joinery allowances, a buying plan packed onto real boards, assembly steps with 3D joint close-ups, and a build mode that rides to the shop on your phone. Or stand the piece in your room in AR.
Build vs buy
Price the wood, not the piece.
Pick a piece, a size, and a species. The same buying plan the studio computes — real boards at editable default prices — beside what a comparable piece runs at retail.

Questions & answers
Fair questions, straight answers.

The studio
What is Blueprint Buddy?
A furniture design studio that starts from a sentence. Describe the piece you want — or upload a photo of one — and the studio drafts it into an interactive 3D model, checks it against real structural physics, and turns it into a cut list, a buying plan with cutting diagrams, and step-by-step assembly instructions you can take to the workbench.
Do I need to know CAD, or be an experienced woodworker?
No. You describe the piece the way you’d say it out loud — “a walnut nightstand, two drawers, about knee height” — and refine it in plain words. Pick your skill level (beginner, intermediate, advanced) and the studio explains as much or as little as you want. Never built furniture before? Start from a proven starter and every step is spelled out.
Isn’t this just AI making things up?
No — and this is the founding rule. The AI only translates your intent: “lower, wider, walnut.” Every dimension, joint, and price is then computed by a deterministic drafting engine — code that knows furniture, not a language model guessing. The same design in always produces the same numbers out, and you can tap any number in the app to see the formula behind it.
Can I trust that what I build will hold up?
Every design runs a structural gauntlet before you see it: shelf sag from real wood stiffness, racking, tipping, fastener duty — on material data from the U.S. Forest Service’s Wood Handbook, with a generous safety factor and long-term creep counted in. When something won’t hold, the studio says so honestly and offers the fix. It can — and does — say no.
Designing & building
What kinds of furniture can it design?
Tables, desks, benches, bookshelves, nightstands, and cabinets are drafted from deep parametric templates — and beyond those, a construction grammar of posts, rails, panels, and slabs lets the studio draft novel pieces from a description or a photo. Everything is sized to you: your dimensions, your wood species, your skill level.
What do I actually get at the end?
Working plans: a cut list with joinery allowances already applied, a buying plan that packs your parts onto real boards you can price and purchase, dimensioned drawings, assembly steps with 3D joint close-ups, and a full-screen Build mode that rides to the shop on your phone with checkable steps. Exports include a printable drawing sheet, SVG, CSV, a 3D model for AR, and SketchUp.
Can I see the piece in my room before I build it?
Yes. Export the 3D model (.glb) and on most Android phones you can stand the piece in your room at true size through AR; on iOS it takes one pass through Apple’s free Reality Converter. On any device, the in-studio 3D view orbits, explodes, and measures the piece from every side.
Inches or millimetres?
Both. The studio computes in exact millimetres internally and displays in fractional inches or millimetres — your choice, switchable any time, with a dual-display option that shows both everywhere.
Accounts, saving & cost
Do I need an account?
No. The studio runs entirely in your browser and autosaves designs to your device. Where sign-in is offered, an account adds cloud sync — your projects follow you to any device — but it’s never required to design or build.
How do I share a design or move it between devices?
Every design compresses into a share code — one line of text that carries the whole piece. Paste it anywhere: a message, a note, another device. Share links do the same through a URL. No account needed on either end.
What does it cost?
Designing is free. On installations with accounts enabled, an optional Pro plan raises the monthly AI-message allowance, removes the saved-project cap, and unlocks premium exports — you’ll see plans and pricing in the studio wherever that applies. Nothing you’ve designed is ever held hostage: share codes and core exports stay open.
What happens to my data?
Your designs live in your browser unless you sign in, in which case projects sync to your account’s private store. Design chat goes through the studio’s own server to the AI service to interpret your intent — the geometry itself is computed locally in your browser. There’s no ad tracking and nothing is sold.
Still curious? The studio answers best in person — a live workbench with a drafted piece is one click away.

Getting plans into the shop
Print plans
Use Export → Print plans (or ⌘P / Ctrl+P) for a one-page drawing sheet with cut list, elevations, and title block — the fastest path to the bench.
Build mode on your phone
Tap Build for board-by-board cutting diagrams and a checkable assembly list. The screen stays awake while you work. Share a BB4: code from Export → Share if you designed on a desktop and build on a phone.
Cut list spreadsheet (.csv)
Export Cut list (.csv) for a spreadsheet or shopping list app. Lengths already include joinery allowances; dimensions use your display units plus a millimetre column.
Drawing sheet (.svg)
Export Drawing sheet (.svg) for a vector file you can print, mark up, or open in any SVG viewer — same sheet as Print.
3D model / AR (.glb)
The .glb export is the universal 3D format. On an Android phone, opening the file offers View in your space — the piece stands in your room at true size. On desktop, any glTF viewer reads it. On iOS, run it through Apple’s free Reality Converter for AR Quick Look. Geometry is exact millimetres.
SketchUp mesh (.dae)
Export SketchUp mesh (.dae) from the Export menu.
In SketchUp choose File > Import… and pick COLLADA (*.dae) as the file type.
Select the downloaded file and click Import — parts arrive named, at exact size, right side up.
SketchUp build script (.rb)
The Ruby script rebuilds the model natively: one component per unique part, instances placed exactly, a tag per role, all in one undo step. Open Window > Ruby Console, paste the script, press Enter.
Claude + SketchUp connector
Working inside Claude with the Trimble SketchUp connector? Export your DesignSpec (.json), paste it into the conversation, and ask Claude to build the piece in your live SketchUp model.

My projects
Designs autosave here as you work. Open, rename, duplicate, or delete — build progress travels with each project.
Share code
A compact code that carries the whole design. Copy it anywhere; paste one below to import.
The whole design rides the URL — no account, no server.
Share links need a hosted copy — from a local file, the code above travels anywhere.
Compare species
The same design recomputed side by side — purchasable cost, weight, sag margin on the critical span, seasonal movement, and surface duty. Tap a column to use that species.
Pure recomputation — nothing is changed until you tap a column.
Diagnostics
